Well this girl Elite is a really beautiful girl with an AMAZING voice and she enters this contest where she gets to meet her favorite singer in real life so when she's at his concert he invites her to sing with h. This is my very 1st book that I read, and let me tell you I LOVED it. She had a great voice and that is what got her to the top. . Elite has a hard life, dealing with a drug-addicted mother and taking care of her siblings. fans of verse novels AND middle grade fic. I have vague memories of hearing of the "Schippan" case, as the newspapers referred to it, and the telling of the tale through the eyes of Emmie Booker, a bright aspiring writer and something of a "fish out of water" in her setting, gives it a fictional feel, despite its grounding in a true story. After that I was totally hooked - there's nothing more morbidly fascinating than a good grisly murder mystery, more so when it's based on real events. It deserves 5 stars. Sometimes we have to step on people when we are really determined too get some where in life. Ony took two days to read (reading just at night and meal times) and I feel richer for the experience. I think the author could have switched a couple of things up a little . How? A girl like me is a good book because it talks about everyone wanting to be like this girl or go with this girl because they think her life is so perfect but in reality its not. The story told was not only about 6 months in Emily's teenager life, or about Bertha, or about Emily's novel, but also about the intrinsic Australian farm life in the early 20th century under the eyes of a soon-to-be woman: never-ending household chores, pervasive stench of smoke, sheep and cheese,constant pressure to behave with dignity and no hope for further education. [ I mean, we all know the moment we met Blake that he was Godot, and why the hell is it even in the summary? She has to be the mom in her family for her little brothers and sisters. Then, a German girl from a poor but hardworking family, Bertha, is hired by her parents to help at the farm. Unfortunately this story didn't capture me despite it being based on a true story.

Fun format. She cared about them so , much. She lies to mostly anyone that knows her about her family, the only ones that really n. I choose to read this book because i read the little summary about it in the back and i wanted to now more about it.Then genre of this book is romance.The setting takes place in Naja's house,School, and her house. And I think the verse format really brings something to it - makes you look at it differently, closer maybe, than if you were reading a pros. This is definitely not a seat gripping mystery and a little bland for my liking, but an OK read none-the-less. She's just finished school, and when she's not helping out on the farm, she's writing a novel - inspired by her favourite book, Wuthering Heights.

Such an amazing book! She was a delightful narrator and I loved reading her efforts at writing a romance novel ;) The historical detail and setting were just gorgeous as well, you could really *see* the small town of Towitta and the harsh South Australian summer. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. In this book Shay goes though many tough times.

It's about a Girl named Elite, who has taken responsibility while her mother goes out and gets high off drugs with her druggie boyfriend. I had never heard of this book before, but it was featured in my library and I saw that it was written in a mixture of verse, emails and text messages and so I was intrigued. she got a record deal , her brother got out of jail and her sisters and brother got to come back home and on top of that they got to move to a better neighbor hood and home(: When most teens are busy thinking about boys and make-up, Elite is busy trying to raise her brothers and sisters. When she gets the tickets her life changes in ways. Very cliche and predictable, however, I'm still smiling. Once you read the 1st page you can't stop reading!
