This year, the global event will take place on Thursday 5 March 2020. The aim of it is to celebrate authors, books, illustrators and - of course - reading! Our mission is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own. Unveiling the £1 books for 2020! World Book Day always falls on the first Thursday of March. On the morning of Monday 23rd September we were thrilled to announce the fabulous range of 15 new £1 books for World Book Day 2020 at The Bookseller’s Children’s Conference in London. World Book Day is the biggest celebration of its kind. Thanks to National Book Tokens and lots of lovely book publishers and booksellers, World Book Day, in partnership with schools all over the country, distribute over 15 million £1 World Book Day book tokens to children and young people (that’s almost one for every child/young person under 18 in the UK and Ireland) every year on World Book Day.. Celebrate World Book Day by hosting a dinner based on your favorite book or series. World Book Day changes lives through a love of books and shared reading.
