Sharpe led the Cornhuskers to the NCAA District Playoffs, an early iteration of the NCAA Tournament, in 1948 and 1950. He had only two losing seasons, including his final one. The Cornhuskers hosted a regional but were eliminated by Southwestern Missouri State, ending the season 47-18.
