The 1938 classic tells the story of Mr. Popper, the small-town housepainter who dreamed of exploring Antarctic regions, and Captain Cook, the redoubtable penguin who turned Mr. Popper's world upside down. The characters are well rounded and when completed you want to know what happens next.
They have a warm winter house in the garden field where food is abundant, even if it is monotonous. Yet I continued, and after a couple more attempts, reading gradually initially before bedtime, I obtained the kids interested in the story.
Actually great literature in the guise of a children's book.
Some evenings, we simply reviewed it out to them.

For me the whole story is entertaining whilst being an insight into an aspect of life that we, as humans, seem to have forgotten.
It's read with such passion and love.
I have given the story full marks because it can appeal to all ages.
